Wednesday 30 November 2011
Time: 6-7.30pm
Venue: NAB.2.14, New Academic Building
Speaker: Anne Marie Waters
Chair: Chris Moos
Anne Marie Waters explores why the Left, which has traditionally fought against religious discrimination and violation of human rights, is now promoting cultural relativism and increasingly rallying behind religious extremists who promote misogynist and homophobic practices that violate human rights, create religious apartheid and segregate communities.
Anne Marie Waters is spokesperson for the One Law for All Campaign. She campaigns against Sharia and religious Laws as she believes that the rights of women are sacrificed in the name of legal and cultural relativism. She studied law and has a strong interest in family law and human rights, and the interaction of the two. She has written various papers on the rights of women in family law and on human rights internationally.
Suggested hashtag for this event for Twitter users: #lsesuSecularism
This event is free and open to all with no ticket required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. For any queries email c.m.moos@lse.ac.uk.
