Art and education are very powerful tools to raise awareness. I suggest to read a lot e.g. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/fisk/the-crimewave-that-shames-the-world-2072201.html

To Emma:

I agree that Sharia law does seem very barbaric as it is practiced. In Saudi Arabia it is used to justify public amputations and executions. In Iran and Somalia it is used to justify stoning to death for adultery.

I understand your concerns about wanting to keep the crime rate down, but lets look at what Sharia law means in practice.

Under Sharia law the evidence of two women is equivalent to one man. I don’t think that is right, even if it is written in the Koran. Do you ?

Would have love to take part in this competition, however just seen it so late.
Being against the Shariah Law is actually being against Islam. Islam judges with the Shariah Law. Those who do not know it well will say its bad and it does sound barbaric but thats for a reason. A man will think twice before he murders if he is to lose his life for it too. In London, you can kill someone and then be absolutely free in a few months or a year or two... thats not justice. Not for the family that has a lost a dear one.

Anyways just wanted to say what I thought. Not a muslim myself but I once was against it but now am not after doing a lot of research.

Good luck to all!!!

In reply to Ms.Chief

Because someone is agains sharia law does not mean that they are anti-muslim or anti islam. There are many muslims against sharia law. For example, see the St Petersburg Declaration on the following website. www.centerforinquiry.net/isis

Hope you are able to participate and thanks for your comment..!

Can someone explain to me what Shariah law means to everyone and the effects of it being implied? Also, is this campaign really against shariah law or against Islam and Muslims, also known as Islamaphobia? I thought I'd just voice my view, being a Londoner who is entitled to freedom of speech ... just like those agreeing and disagreeing with this campaign.

Outside art competition there is another competition?

I think short story competition is good. It would be another tools to campaign and it remind me to Salman Rushdie and Taslema Nasreen.
